A skill Folder is a container for organizing skills, and also the unit that determines the distribution scope.
Setting the Distribution Scope
For each Folder, set the Audience using the following conditions.
- Organization, Organization Group…Which organizations to distribute to
- Job Title, Employment Type…Additional filtering conditions within the organizations specified above
Inherited from the Parent Folder
If no distribution settings are configured for a Folder, the settings are inherited from the nearest parent Folder that has settings configured.
Using this behavior, you can configure a company-wide distribution setting on a top-level Folder and apply individual settings only to department-specific Folders.
If you edit the settings on a Folder that is inheriting settings, the inherited content will be pre-filled as the initial values, and saving will make it the Folder's own settings. From that point on, it will no longer follow changes made to the parent.
Guidelines for Structuring Folders
- Group skills intended for the same Audience…Since distribution settings are applied per Folder, the basic approach is to group skills by distribution scope
- Separate common skills from department-specific skills…Keeping company-wide skills and department-specific skills in separate Folders simplifies distribution settings
Notes
A Folder cannot be deleted if there are skills remaining inside it or in any of its sub-Folders.
